Hopelessly devoted....to Italy

After an innumerable tiny catatrophes (the more major of which being my employer had neglected to buy me a plane ticket. Which I discovered as I was trying to check the group in at the airport. As if that weren't difficult enough in and of itself. Have you ever tried getting 18 teenagers checked in for a flight, through security, and then acutally onto a plane? Picture someone trying to hold onto a big ball of jello.) I'm back in Italy safe and sound. Malta was beautiful but in my mind it doesn't hold a candle to Italia.

Two things I really missed? The food and coffee. The first thing I did at the airport after giving my group back to their parents was go have a cafe macchiato. It was delicious. Then that evening it was off to the Polo Club with my very generous friend M________ for one of the more delicious meals I've ever had.

Although its only a hop skip and a jump from Sicily, Malta really is another world. I don't know if its the feeling of post-colonialism which still hangs heavy in the air or the relative colorlessness of its buildings. For me at least, everything is somehow so much more vibrant here.

So now I'm spending a few days in the eternal city of Rome, staying at the hostel that doesn't sleep. Ah well...there will be time for all that once I'm back in Busto.
